Domestic Wind Turbines

Domestic wind turbines are relatively cheap at £1,500 and are dead easy to install, but despite the generous coverage they have received - partly thanks to David Cameron installing one on his roof - they're not a viable option for most domestic homes. domesticwindturbines.jpg

Optimum results are only achieved at wind speeds of 12.5 meters a second, whereas the average wind speed in built-up areas is 4.6 meters a second. Plus, they need to be installed on a very high mast to avoid air turbulence passing over the top of the building.

Eco bling - yes. An economic and effective renewable energy source - unlikely, unless you live on top of hill in the Outer Hebrides!
