What is a Pet Poo Converter?

The Tumbleweed Pet Poo Converter converts dog droppings into worm casts and a liquid fertilizer which can be diluted down for use on the garden (Flowers / Shrubs not vegetables / food). This simple wormfarm is fed on dog droppings rather than vegetable waste from the kitchen.

How Does It Work?

The Tumbleweed Pet Poo converter consists of a sturdy nesting box with a lid, a driptray and 4 legs, which form a neat, compact portable unit. The worms eat and breed in the top box. This has a perforated base to allow any liquid waste to drain through to the driptray. The “worm poo” or worm castings remain in the top box and can be harvested as desired.

  • No maintenance costs
  • No chemicals
  • Safe to operate
  • Produces valuable by-products

  • A pot placed under the central drain of the driptray can be used to collect the valuable liquid waste which can be diluted and used as a fertilizer on your garden. We do not recommend the use of this fertilizer on vegetable gardens. There is no difficulty in getting the worms to eat dog droppings. Commercial worm farmers rear their worms on manure. However it is not possible to mix diets. They must be fed exclusively on pet poo. If you want to recycle vegetable scraps you must set up a separate farm.

    Operating a Pet Poo Converter

Approx. 1500 worms in 10 litres of bedding mix are recommended to start the Pet Poo Converter.
    1. Place worms in the top box
    2. Site the Pet Poo Converter in a shady part of the garden near where the dog does his business
    3. Using a “pooper scooper” pop the dog droppings into the top of the Pet Poo Converter and close the lid. The worms and nature will do the rest!
The Pet Poo Converter will handle, on average, the droppings of two medium size dogs, depending upon the size of the dog it will take anything from 3 months to 2 years to fill the top box with worm castings.

The differences between the Worm Farm and Pet Poo Converter

Yes they are the same! The reason we sell them under different names is that we recommend the compost from the pet poo converter is not put onto the vegetable garden, whereas the normal kitchen waste feed to a worm farm can. Although the worms kill of most pathogens we cannot guarantee it kills all and in this way we make the customer aware in the instructions where to use the compost.

The top box can be used on both but you should be aware that adding a top box does not mean it will work quicker by adding more worms to the extra space. Worms live just below the surface and it is the surface area that determines how many worms you can have and how quick it works. The worms are self regulating. All the extra box does is allow you to empty the worm farm less often and in the case of the pet poo converter you do not need to be in touch with the poo in the top box.
