Following on from the hugely successful Powermonkey Explorer comes the Solarmonkey from Powertraveller.

Product Features

The Solarmonkey Portable Solar Charger can be connected directly to your phone, iPod, PDA, PSP and more, enabling you to recharge without the need for batteries or a mains power supply! The solarmonkey works via two solar panels which geneate an electric current when exposed to light, which in turn charges your device. (Please Note: The solarmonkey does NOT hold a charge - the Solarnut does.)

The Solarnut

Specially designed to work with the solarmonkey, the included solarnut reserves redundant solar energy so that if a sunny day turns cloudy whilst you're using your solarmonkey, charging of your device is not affected. It will regulate the supply of power to your device, meaning yet another stress-free charge courtesy of Powertraveller!

The solarnut can also be used as a stand alone portable emergency charger, providing you with up to a quarter of mobile phone power or at least 15 minutes of talktime. To make the most of your solarnut, recharge it (via the solarmonkey) at least once every 2-3 months!

Additional Features

The solarmonkey solar charger now comes complete with a velcro strap, enabling you to attach it to a rucksack - perfect for keeping your gadgets charged whilst you're trekking up a mountain!!

The solarmonkey will also work under incandescent lights such as a table lamp - genius!

Solarmonkey vs. Powermonkey Explorer

The Solarmonkey is ideal for use in direct sunlight. It comes with a full range of connector tips including I-Pod, which you would expect from an Apple "made for I-pod" approved accessory. The whole package includes a travel pouch and storage case.

The Solarmonkey uses the same Hi Gain Solar Panel as the power Powermonkey Explorer, but saves the collected energy into a smaller capacity device, the "solarnut".

The Solarmonkey has a lower capacity - typically 15 minute talk time on a mobile and is aimed at using solar power directly, where as the Powermonkey Explorer has a larger capacity and can completely recharge a mobile.

The Powermonkey Explorer also comes with mains charger and world wide connectors which the Solarmonkey does not.
