We introduce you to the wonderful fragrances of Maroma, a kaleidoscope of perfumes born from the combination of natural essential oils. Maroma has been developing products using essential oils for over 25 years from its base in Auroville, South India and is recognised as a fair trade organization.
Maroma’s Fragrances
Maroma’s fragrances are made using essential oils selected from the best sources from around the world. The enjoyment of a good fragrance should always be accompanied by the knowledge that it is not harmful. Maroma follows the guidelines of IFRA. The International Fragrance Association was formed with scientific aims concerned with all aspects of safety evaluation and regulation of the fragrance industry, keeping in mind the protection of both consumer and the environment.
Wood
The wood used for all displayers or incense holders comes from renewable and regulated sources..
Maroma Products
Maroma products contain no animal elements and are never tested on animals.
Palm Wax
The Palm Wax used by Maroma for its votive candles is sourced from reputable Malaysian plantation companies who are members of the Malaysian Palm Oil Association and of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil which support all activities to promote and implement sustainable palm oil production. All Maroma candles are hand poured and have a cotton wick to ensure a clean burn.
Packaging
The packaging material is always chosen with consideration for environmental impact. Much of it is recycled cotton paper.
BAFTS
Maroma’s policy towards their employees has been recognized by the British Association of Fair Trade Shops (BAFTS) which has endorsed Himalaya UK Ltd as a Fair Trade importer. Himalaya imports 95% of its products from Maroma and Auroville.
Stoneware and Terracotta
The Stoneware and terracotta items that we offer also come from Auroville, from the potteries of Flame, Kratu and Boopathi are individually hand-made and decorated. The glazes used are lead-free.
Pacifica Candles
The Pacifica Candles are imported from the USA. The soya used in the wax is GMO free. They are inspired by the sun, sea and bountiful nature of the American West Coast, the founders of Pacifica have created sublime fragrances which are instantly pleasing: sophisticated, complex, uplifting and unique. Crafted solely from natural ingredients and enveloped in stunning packaging, Pacifica products are memorable and speak to a deep rooted response to wonderful fragrances. All Pacifica Products are free of parabens, lead, propylene glycol and phthalates. They are vegan and cruelty-free.
Auroville, South India - a major source of employment for the 40,000 inhabitants
Nearly all our products come from Auroville. Auroville is an international project dedicated to human unity located in Tamil Nadu, South India. Once a barren plateau, the region of Auroville has been transformed into a lush green area in which a city is progressively taking shape. Over the past 38 years, Auroville has grown into an expanding community of some 80 settlements inhabited by about 1,800 people from India and from 30 other countries. The residents are engaged in a wide range of activities, including researches in environmental regeneration, organic farming, renewable energy, appropriate building technology, village development, handicrafts and small-scale industries, health care, etc. A major source of employment for the 40,000 inhabitants of the surrounding villages, Auroville works closely with them to improve their infrastructure, education and health care. www.auroville.org |
