How Does It Work?

Desktop Computers have complicated power demands. This is due to the internal software which seeks to reduce the amount of power the computer uses. When switching the computer on, all of the internal components, including the CD/DVD drives are powered. The computer will switch off internal devices once it has established that they are not required. This means that the power demanded by a Desktop Computer can vary from an average of 70 to 350 watts and in some cases less than 2 watts.

Whilst all of this activity is being deployed by the computer to run as efficiently as possible, peripheral equipment such as the monitor, printer, speakers, scanner, and games consoles have very poor power management and are often left switched on when the computer is no longer in use.

So the challenge was to identify the correct threshold between the on and off level for the wide range of desktop computers on the market, ensuring that peripheral equipment is only switched off when the computer is not in use or in standby. This has been achieved by our patented Auto-Calibration technology which automatically switches off peripheral equipment when the computer is no longer in use.

Auto Calibration – The IntelliPanel™ continuously measures the amount of electricity being consumed by your TV in active and standby mode, by learning your televisions unique energy pattern the IntelliPanel™ will only switch your peripherals on/off when appropriate. At the right time, every time

Zero-crossing detection - Automatically determines when the power supplied to the peripherals is at an optimum level for creating the least amount of stress to components

Quality Surge Protection - will dissipate surges of up to 1,400 joules of energy/a peak current of 48,000 amps and includes thermal fuse in case of a catastrophic spike

Sky socket - The dedicated Sky socket is designed specifically for a Sky Digibox. When you turn off your television the peripherals will switch off together with your Sky Digibox. This automatically re-sets your Sky Digibox and places it in to standby mode ready for use. The Sky Socket is not recommended for use in conjunction with Sky+ or Sky HD when using the timer record function

Permanent Power Socket – for items such as video recorders and Sky+ or Sky HD that require permanent power for timer recording

Telephone/Aerial SurgeProtection - High quality varistors give the best possible protection against surge

Telephone splitter-one input line split into two, one for a telephone and one for another application such as a Sky DigiBox
