The Highway is a unique, easy to fit in-car DAB digital radio that also enables you to listen to your iPod/MP3 player.

PURE developed the HIGHWAY radio as a compact DAB radio that transmits DAB signals and programmes to your exiting analogue car radio. Not only that, unclip it, plug in speakers or earphones and you have a DAB radio for home or personal listening. The Highway comes complete with full car mounting kit, that is easily installed without any tools by anyone that can switch a radio on!

Analogue radio to be switched off

The UK Government has confirmed the move from analogue radio (AM/FM) to DAB by 2015 for all UK national stations - effectively signalling the beginning of the switch off of analogue transmissions in the UK. This means for instance that within 6 years all BBC radio stations would only be available on DAB.

While we do not believe this is a sensible approach for many reasons, it now looks inevitable. We totally agree that DAB is a fantastic technology and has a place now and in the future of radio but not at the cost of the loss of analogue radio. Imagine for a minute, the amount of analogue radio sets that would simply be sent to landfill, or if you wanted to take a radio on holiday overseas - your DAB radio would not work. So, we will continue to provide analogue radios powered by wind up and solar power for the foreseeable future, as we strongly believe there will always be a need for analogue radio - worldwide.

Now imagine your car, chances are that you do not have DAB radio in your car, multiply that by some 30 million cars in the UK alone, and you can see the huge amount of waste that will be accumulated over the next 6 years in the panic to keep listening to Terry Wogan!
